Ballast Water Testing

Ensuring the safety of the ecosystem and keeping the oceans healthy

Ballast Water Testing

A ship that receives and delivers cargo at multiple ports will have a mix of waters from all ports and is likely to contain a mixture of organisms from different ecosystems. The release of ballast water is likely to introduce alien species at the port of discharge. The problem here occurs when this alien species becomes invasive and reproduces an uncontrollable number of its population. This not only damages the native marine community but also creates an ecological imbalance. Thus testing and analysis of ballast water on a regular basis ensures that the shipping procedures are as per national and international norms and is maintaining the sanctity of the environment.

Atlas Lab provides a comprehensive state-of-the-art Ballast Water Testing and analysis Facility. The goal for the analysis of the water is to ensure that the treatment of the Ballast Water Management System is operating accurately as per the norms laid down by the Ballast Convention and that ships are maintaining their quality standards as per required D-2 and D-3 norms. Ballast water is tested for Enterococci, E. Coli and Heterotrophic Bacteria. Samples must be tested two times per year as per standard procedures. Tests are carried out by experts in the field of testing and analysis with over 40 years of cumulative experience to provide exact results for your ballast water-related issues.
